This week we are crushing on Andrew Shier from Ten Minute Detour.
Hailing from Calgary, Ten Minute detour has been making good old rock and roll since 2013. Andrew and his bandmates have shared the stage with the likes of One Bad Son and Royal Tusk, playing hundreds of shows accross Canada. In 2015 TMD put out their debut album Lay it Down. Now the boys are back with a new record and the same great old sound.
Common Pleasure was produced by Lincoln Parish (Cage The Elephant) in Nashville. Together he and the band recorded seven tracks in just seven days. One of those tracks is "Betty", a song that may have one of the sweetest backstories of all time. "Betty" was inspired by our crush's grandmother, who is the song's namesake. Says Andrew, “the song was written about the last time I saw her before she passed. I had hooked up her 8-track player, and put on one of her dad’s cassettes from the 1940’s. Not having heard him in decades, she was moved to tears and couldn’t stop dancing around the kitchen - this was in her mid-90’s. It was a surreal experience seeing how music can ignite the soul, present us with pure emotion and joy.“
